Help With Water Heater

Hot water heater not working on electric. I have two switches on panel, one for gas and one for electric. The electric switch lights up when turned on, but no hot water. I am second owner, lived in coach 3 months, never tried electric alone until yesterday . Would like to try and repair myself, looking for ideas if you have had this problem. Thanks.

Jim

  • It doesn't take long for the electric element to burn out if there is no water in the heater. I had not turned off my electric element before I put water inthe MH. I had plugged in and forgotten to shut off the electric element. The total cost was $17.00 for the eleent plus a couple more bucks for that size socket to remove it. 15 minute job when everything is handy.
  • Hey Jim-

Was the heating element on mine when this happened. Easy fix (so it seemed as I watched the mobile repair guy replace it).

  • Since the water heater uses battery for propane and is working that way, the only other thing to check on AC side is the breaker for the water-heater. If it is not tripped, then the element has failed for electric heating.

You might also check the electric connections to the heating element. Clean and retighten them.
  • if it is a Suburban WH there is a rocker switch on the outside left lower corner of WH just under the gas valve under the outside cover.
  • Some have an outside switch for electric (near water heater) that needs to be turn to ON so when you turn on the switch inside it will work on electric...

If this doiesn't work the electric element in the water heater may have burnt up...
