High Anxiety

I have had my RV for several years now and have just never gotten over the anxiety and feelings of terror that I get from preparing for a trip, worrying about all the things to check and recheck. Then, driving that beast down the road, worry about this, worry about that. I am exhausted by the time I reach my destination whether near or far. I always try to notice approaching RV'rs when I am on the road and they appear so relaxed and comfortable and I feel like I am a white knuckle driver. Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe they are smart and have sold their RV?

  • It is supposed be enjoyable.

Like Mr Mark said, maybe consider trying a smaller rig.

Rent a Class C and go on a small trip and see if it’s easier for you. They feel more like driving a large truck.

Hope you can work it out
  • Eldondo, I think we all have a little bit of fear and anxiety at first before leaving on a trip. I have to admit I go through a some of that myself thinking about 'what if....'

Then, I have to say that it all goes away once I turn the key and start rolling. Sure, things can happen, break, need servicing, etc., it's just the nature of the beast. I have insurance, road side assistance, redundant systems (for house), so I just try to live life to the fullest. It's all in the adventure!

You don't have your RV listed in your sig, maybe your RV is too big?

    Safe travels,
    MM.
  • If you have the means, you could buy spare parts for just about anything that could possibly go wrong. Most of us have found that by buying and carrying a spare part, it is almost a guaranty that the original part will NEVER fail. :B
On a serious note, why not just take short trips and gradually expand your trip distance until you get comfortable with your rig?
  • I'm sorry you feel that way but I understnad.
I had a co-worker that bought a huge fifth wheel. They'd never pulled anything before and it was stressful like you described. They ened up getting a lot on the coast so he only had to pull it twice a year.
He dreaded those twice yearly pulls though.
