- the_trippersExplorerMost writers on the subject seem to stick to the well traveled safe roads. not the Million Dollar Hwy in Colorado, or HWy 49 in CA, or South on HWY 1 in CA, or many other thrilling roads that I can't recall the names of and will forever avoid, as my wife told me so.
- Just watch the grade(up or down). Mountain Directory will tell when something is getting steep. 6% or less is easy, 7% to 10% may need to go extra slow and gear down, 12%+ maybe find another route until you have some experience. Otherwise a bit slower when conditions dictate and go have some fun.
Or is this about winding roads, no guardrails and drop offs? Face your fears and go slow.
CA has some RV/Bus maps where longer vehicles are not appropriate. - BigRabbitManExplorerI haven't been on a paved road that wasn't just fine. Its the dirt roads like the ones I have traveled in the past couple of days that are the questionable ones.

- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIGet this resource for mountain driving. It comes in many versions including the Western states and Eastern states. It doesn't include every highway but does for the popular RVing ones or where a semi-truck might go.
http://www.mountaindirectory.com/ - J-RoosterExplorerWilliam, let me be the first to welcome you to RV.Net! You asked a great question about roads! I traveled Hwy.#89 before with my 36' RV towing a vehicle behind me and had no difficulties on that Hwy.! Good Luck, in your travels and don't be afraid to post your concerns.

I don't think you'd want to tackle "The Tail of The Dragon" in Deals Gap in western North Carolina on an RV. You'd be fine most everywhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but the Dragon lives up to its name.
Or Needles Parkway in South Dakota or US-14(A) Alternate in Wyoming or sections of Cal-1 or ....
The list of paved roads that you should -not- take anything but the smallest RV on is fairly lengthy. - 10forty2ExplorerI don't think you'd want to tackle "The Tail of The Dragon" in Deals Gap in western North Carolina on an RV. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIrk91 - the link you gave is for interstates
OP: We've traveled U.S. 89 quite often in all the states with our 40' motorhome. It's a great, scenic one. Enjoy! - Pop-Pop_CExplorerThere is road construction Every where.
Most are RV passable. Some better than others.
