Hissing brakes, is it normal?
Hi, I have a gas 2011 Winnebago on a Ford Chassis. When the engine is running and I press the brakes hard, even if I'm stopped, the brakes hiss. The sound seems to be coming from the area of the pedal. Lightly pressing doesn't cause a hiss.
Is this normal?
I asked the shop that I usually have work on my RV, and they said it is, but I'm not convinced that they actually heard the sound.
The tech originally said it's the emergency brake pump that comes on if the engine is off, but this happens when the engine is on, so it's not that. Plus, I wouldn't describe that pump as anything like a hiss. When I pointed this out to him, he said, oh, that's normal then, it's the vacuum for the cruise control. (I like the shop, but they're kind of strange in that sometimes I have to convince them to fix something, so I don't trust them saying it's normal. I've had some funny conversations that have ended with me saying, "You do realize that I'm going to pay you to do this work, don't you?" But, their work has always been good once I convince them to work on something, and I feel that they are honest.)
Thanks.
