if it has the hwh slide mechanism, this is normal action. when the slide room retracts, the fluid is pumped thru the synchronizing cylinder. the purpose of this cylinder is to maintain even pressure on both the room cylinders.if one gets ahead of the other, a poppet valve between the two chambers of the sync cylinder opens and allows the pressure to equalize. this is the movement you see. if there is major movement(4 inches or more) you have a problem. a couple of inches is not a problem.
sync cylinders are used on all hwh room systems using more than one room cylinder. rooms can use 1, 2 and more room cylinders. ive even used two sync cylinders with four chambers used on commercial applications. that means it had 8 room cylinders on one room. major pain to work on.
service manuals will help diagnose sync cylinder problems. you will also need some adapter fittings, and at least two pressure gauges. these 5000 lb oil filled pressure gauges can be bought at harbor freight for about $10 dollars each. normally harbor freight is my last choice for tools, but these work fine.
