holiday rambler vacationer slide problem?

The bedroom slide on my 2011 vacationer seems to be coming in differently. When it reaches near full retraction, the rear touches the end before the front does, slightly. I'm wondering if that has always been normal (just noticing it), or if they should hit the end by the cabinets at the same time?

Anyone experience it?

  • Does anyone lube the slide mechanism? I was told it was not necessary
  • Thanks Doug and paulden. Doug, this looks like what I have. I was told my system was new, at least to holiday rambler, in 2011.

Like I said, it's coming in the same now.
  • if it has the hwh slide mechanism, this is normal action. when the slide room retracts, the fluid is pumped thru the synchronizing cylinder. the purpose of this cylinder is to maintain even pressure on both the room cylinders.if one gets ahead of the other, a poppet valve between the two chambers of the sync cylinder opens and allows the pressure to equalize. this is the movement you see. if there is major movement(4 inches or more) you have a problem. a couple of inches is not a problem.
sync cylinders are used on all hwh room systems using more than one room cylinder. rooms can use 1, 2 and more room cylinders. ive even used two sync cylinders with four chambers used on commercial applications. that means it had 8 room cylinders on one room. major pain to work on.
service manuals will help diagnose sync cylinder problems. you will also need some adapter fittings, and at least two pressure gauges. these 5000 lb oil filled pressure gauges can be bought at harbor freight for about $10 dollars each. normally harbor freight is my last choice for tools, but these work fine.
  • Do you have the Schwintek system? This system has the 2 tracks on each side of the slide out wall. At the bottom and about 6 inches from the top. If so, the operation may be normal. Doug
  • Putting the slide in and out, I'm now noticing it isn't consistent. Seems to come in the same now. What about tomorrow?
  • On my Monaco, which may or may not be the same slide mechanism as yours, I have two motors and gear tracks for my slides. On the motors there is a lever to engage or disengage the gears. Disengaging the gears is how you would manually retract the slide if the motor fails.
In any case, perhaps you could disengage ONE of the gear motors, move the slide manually to align it with the other side, and then engage the gears again.
On my coach it takes a 3/4" wrench to manually move the slide.
  • I too have a 2011 HRV 30sfs and the slide is as you stated at retract position. Sooooooo apparently its a manufactoring defect(problem). Had the unit looked at by RV techs....they said if its not leaking don't touch it. Have made an appointment at another repair shop to see what their idea might be to have slide close evenly..........BUT think I better call MonacoRV Techs in Coburg OR for their OPINION !!!

    Good Luck
