House Power issue

I am having a very difficult time finding and fixing what is wrong with my coach. Basically I have no 12 volt power. When plugged into shore power every functions as it should. When unplugged I have no lights in the coach but the Benny will start. I have replacing the convertor/ charger, the battery disconnect switch and the house battery with no luck. Stumped on what to do next. All fuses are good as well. I hear no click when I moved the battery discontent switch but don't know where the controlling solenoid is....
Please help .....

  • I'm having the same problem on my 2008 FW Hurricane 34B.

I ran my house batteries so low I ended up replacing the aged batteries. No house power. I start the Gen and about 15 seconds later the house power kicks on.

I called Thor and the service tech told me to look hard under the master bed. In some other wires is a red 6 gauge going to a two terminal little grey box. The copper wire terminal will have a reset button. The silver terminal will not. The problem is, I still can't find any of this he described.

I'm hoping the original poster took a pic of what he found to post up for me.

I'm headed to the rv first thing to look again. We've got a trip to Blaine Friday for a few days. We'll be in Vancouver most of the time.

Under the BED. Great access and troubleshooting location.

Glad you found it and everything's running!

Glad you found the problem, thanks for letting us know.

So Am I...very frustrating and costly problem to find.....the only bonus is I am now extremely familiar with my RV wiring and electrical operation....
  • I found the issue ! There is a safe stop fuse under the bed that goes to the battery and the convertor solenoid. I reset it and viola , I have power to the house....300 plus dollars and a few weeks of feeling stupid and it's fixed....thanks to all for the effort in trying to help me out....the original battery shorted out and must have tripped the little safe stop breaker thingy...
  • My battery disconnect solenoid is under the bed.

It sounds like your battery voltage is not getting to the converter. Use your multimeter, or test light, to check the voltage along the way.

My genny is started from the coach battery, but the wire to the genny comes off the battery at a standoff near the battery so if you have a similar model to me the problem is at or after that standoff.

It might help to post the model of your Class C.

Check the 2 main fuses, probably 30 amps each, on the 12 v distribution board at your converter.

Check the ground wire from the house batteries to the frame. The place where it contacts the frame may be corroded.

Follow the hot wire from the house battery to see where it goes. Its first stop should be the "discontent" relay/solenoid.

Look to see if there were 2 main hot wires to the house batteries, one to the "Benny" and one to the rest of the house. The one to the rest of the house may have gotten left off accidentally.

Following the hot wire and testing for voltage as you go is the only real way to find where the voltage stops.
  • Well genny could be using the the truck battery to start,my 2010 chevy does.
There could be a big buss fuse inside the rv near the house battery.
  • I get it.. you're typing that on a tablet or phone, and it's completing words for you.
