Around here in the northeast, There are still quite a few homes that still heat with fuel oil.. Fuel oil is just untaxed diesel fuel.. Back in the day, when your outside oil tank had #2 oil in it and it was going to get below 20 degrees, you would take and add kerosene to the tank.. Number #1 diesel fuel is just #2 diesel with kerosene added.. This acts as anti-freeze for the fuel and it is also used in trucks and buses when it gets very cold.. And about a gallon of added kerosene in the tank will be enough.. This is old school and works just fine...
