How do you fill the fresh water tank?

Ok, I give up. I know this is going to be a simple answer and I'll end up looking stu---. First off as you can see by other post I've had several 5ers and even an old C. But I can not find how to fill the fresh water tank on this rv. Story, I'm cleaning up a 2006 jayco escapade to sell for a lady cousin of mine who was awarded the rv in a divorce and she knows nothing about it and I've never had a jayco. I've got a feeling it fills via the city water intake. I've looked for a panel with the pictures code of dashes to do different functions, can't find it. No open fill hole on body. Only thing I can think of is you connect to the city water which fills the tank then in turn you can use the pump. I know that doesn't make sense.

  • WE had a 2003 Greyhound we bought new. the water fill valve was under the fold away couch, I had to get on my hands and knees to reach the valve. Wrote Jayco
a letter asking them if they could fix this problem if I stopped at their

factory, the answer was NO. I rerouted the fill line for $20. This was just one of many things I changed. Had a new knee three years ago, without the change I would not have been able to fill my fresh water tank. We sold the RV last year because of health reasons.
  • Oh boy, I'm glad I found this thread. I'm in the same boat and clearly the guy who wrote the manual is nuts. Here's the manual diagram:

    Here's the actual pump:

Any idea how I'm supposed to locate "Make sure valves 1, 2, 3, and 5 are closed and valve 4 is open"? It's not even close to matching the manual.

    TO FILL THE WATER TANK:
    1. Connect the garden hose to the city water connection. Fill the tank.
    • Make sure valves 1, 2, 3, and 5 are closed and valve 4 is open. (Fig. 4-2 & 4-3)
    2. Open kitchen and bathroom faucets to allow air to escape the water lines and water heater
  • My 2009 Jayco Greyhawk fills the tank in "city fill" or in "sanitize". I can pump in fresh water from a container in country mode or sanitize using the house water pump.

We have a 2003 Escapade 31A, and the piping diagrams approximate what we have. The Hot Water Bypass valves are at the heater itself, under the kitchen sink. The Low Point Drain valves are inside an outside compartment and that compartment is marked with a label. But sadly, the rest of the valves are on the floor, in a hodgepodge on the kitchen floor. At the bottom of the cabinet under the oven...

I don't think you'll find that convenient, labeled, Utility Center in an Escapade. I downloaded that manual and it FoxIT PDF, the Escapades begin on Page 44.

On our 31A the City Water Inlet is visible on the inside of the outer wall, from that under-oven compartment. Our tank is under the floor, above the axle. Its drain valve is near the City Water Inlet and the overflow is under the coach, near the shower.

If you can find the Fresh Water Tank, see that Inlet, and find the nest of Valves (not counting Water Heater Bypass), you should be able to trace the valve positions to fill the tank. In Florida, I drain the system but don't run antifreeze in a "winterize" process. That means I don't change the valves near the Water Heater, and I don't use the Winterize suction hose either. Find that Winterize suction valve. Should be at the end of a length of hose with nothing on the other end. Meant to stick into a jug of antifreeze, and DON'T open it since you can flood the coach floor.

See if this helps. If it doesn't, find those valves, take a pic and post it. Will try to help.
  • Post some pictures. Mine (new) Jayco fills the tank from City Water (or Country Fill). Both are a matter of connecting the hose to the City Water inlet, then flipping the values to "Tank Fill".
  • If I did this correctly, this LINK should take you to the 2006 Jayco manual. Water connection info starts on page 39.

  • If it only has one water inlet, there's a fill valve somewhere that connects the pressure side of the system (and hence the city water connection) to the fill port on the tank. Maybe, if you're really lucky, the RV owner's manual will tell where the valve is.
