In class a couple of weeks ago, the instructor told us that an ISX 15 engine alone costs about $75,000. He said the transmission is about $25,000. Told us the K3 chassis retails for $250,000. I couldn't believe how expensive it is so I tried looking it up on the interwebs. Couldn't find any clue.Do any of you know how much new Cummins engines cost? ISX15, ISX12, ISL9, ISB6.7, ISV5.0 -- doesn't matter, I'm just curious. I have no other point to make with this post. I love my engine and everything runs fine. No complaints at all. One guy had a ISX drop a valve, the repair was around $29KWhen we bought our coach back in '01, the upgrade from a ISC to the ISL was $9K

New and used engines. Cost does not include removal, installation, any accessories, freight both ways, plus core charge if yours is not rebuildable. Cummins

Used ISX run from about 5k for a high miler, to newly rebuilt for 29k. But like you I couldn't find the price of a new one, because they all get core returned, which varies the cost.

look up jasper engines they are a major remanufacture.

You're right—new engines can be shockingly expensive! The Cummins ISX15 engine, depending on the specs, can cost anywhere from $40,000 to $75,000 brand new from an OEM dealer. Other models like the ISX12 or ISB6.7 tend to be a bit cheaper, but they’re still a hefty investment. A lot of fleets and companies that use Earth Movers Equipment opt for rebuilt or remanufactured engines to cut costs. If you're just curious, checking with a Cummins dealer or a heavy equipment supplier might give you the most accurate pricing.

  aside from this post being 10 years old, national truck parts sells then for about 25k, they say new but I suspect it is just a used in good condition.

Yep, I see that Spartan is selling a brand new Entegra chassis for $22,000.

That includes the new ISB engine, plus transmission, emissions, air cleaner, radiator, frame, brakes, tires, electrical, suspension and steering. All for $22,000. The ISB engine can't cost them more than $11,000.

As horsepower increases for the same engine block, the price of the engine rises drastically. The additional cost is to cover potential warranty claims. It is best to stay low to mid range horsepower for an engine block if your concern is longevity.

I agree. It doesn't add up. I just looked up prices on the 550HP new models from Kenworth and they are only $167k and have 18 speed transmissions. There is no way he is correct.

It would be hard to sell a OTR tractor for less than $150k if the engine and tranny cost $100K.

Interesting. $29k for a 500 hp version. I wonder what comes with it? Turbo charger? DPF, SCR? Fuel pump & filters? Air filters? Maybe he was right about the 600 hp version with all the fixins. But there is still a big gap between a 500hp $29k motor and a 600hp $75k motor.

No way 75K. That diesel guzzler you got on that coach probably costs around 30K new.

Lot of variables.
My old Detroit has wet sleeves, what allow in-frame rebuild.
All parts can be bought for less than $1000 and even if you pay for labor it is about $3000
