How often do you change your differential oil?

I changed mine about 18,000 miles ago ( 4 years) to a semi synthetic 75-90 from a 85-140 because I live in colder climates.

What frequency do you change your oil? The truck garage I go to says the semis go a long time between changes as this oil doesn't break down the same as engine oil. I was thinking of going one more year or maybe that's overkill?

Starting this year, after having to replace the ring and pinion, I am changing it at new intervals because of the condensation that builds up when they sit. I have decided to change it at least once per year. For the first three years I owned it, I did not even check on it. I had heard that condensation could build up, but did not realize the degree of damage that this can cause.

Sounds like it wasnt setup correctly at the factory!! ANY decent ring and pinion thats been properly setup should go a MINIMUM of 100,000 miles
  • You could also take a small sample for a test.
Napa has a kit for about $15.00
Includes testing container and shipping tube
