How to clean battery acid spill

Need to clean off of slides before they are damaged by corrosion. Don't need them ruined by the acid spill.
  • One word of caution - Don't get the baking soda inside the battery. It will then neutralize the battery.
  • I agree with using baking soda. Make sure to rinse everything with large quantities of water.

Sorry but that is BAD advice.

"Caustic solutions" often are corrosive too.
And they are more dangerous to work with.
And when combined with acid, they can produce toxic fumes.

THAT is why most people recommend baking soda.

If using a caustic solution such as a toilet bowl cleaner, mix with water first. Rinse water will feel slick when rubbing between fingers and will disappear after it is gone.
  • Baking soda. Cover as much as you can with the powder. Then mix all that will dissolve in water, and wet down what you can't get the powder on. When stops bubbling, flood the area with water. Then wet the area with the solution again.
