We used one of these things, it comes with a hand wand. Took many times cleaning and at a weird angle of cleaning but finally got stains off. Used their rug shampoo in hand wand.

Also comes in handy cleaning other stuff around house, chairs, sofa and headrests in cars, etc. Ours is an older design but works good. Used to be called "green machine"
