I don't think there was any rubber piece in between the handle and glass, but there are a lot of things that have dry-rotted, so that could be another!
I'm having a HORRIBLE problem with the large window leaking - not around the outwide rim, but through the bottom "track". I replaced the rubber gasket because the old one was so hard and dry-rotted that the window wouldn't open, but now it leaks with the slightest bit of rain.
Have you had this problem before?
