How to make up corner beds

Is there a trick to making up the corner bed in class C's? With some of them being enclosed except for the entrance point by the bathroom, it looks like it would be a challenge. Will a regular bed sheet work with the lopped off corner, or should special sheets be made or purchased; can they be purchased? A video would be nice.

I don't yet have a C, but I'm leaning toward a C for the obvious reasons. I'm not yet sure about the corner be arrangement, but that's the normal floorplan in the smaller length I prefer.

Thanks. Don

  • I have an Itasca Spirit 25B. I knew the corner bed would be a chore but it turned out to be impossible to make up in the conventional way because in order to claim a "true full size" mattress they used every millimeter of space leaving not even enough space for my fingers to fit between the mattress and the walls. I could tuck nothing in no matter how much I crawled around. So I got 2 adult size fleece sleeping bags/sacks from LLBean. They zip together to make a full size sack and cover the mattress perfectly. There is plenty of friction between the fleece and the mattress cover to keep the bottom sac in place so there is no bunching. I am very happy with it and add a quilt over top as required. It is very easy to pull and replace so I never hesitate to launder it.
This totally solved the problem for me and I love the compact design of my Itasca.
  • We gave up and tossed a sleeping bag on top
The bed was impossible to make up and to top it off too short

Sold the rig and never looked back

Get a walk around as others have said
  • I make up the corner bed with regular sheets. It involves some "crawling" to do it, but is not too bad. Take the fitted bottom sheet to the head of the bed and get both corners tucked under, then bring it back to the foot with you (crawling on your knees) to the foot. Repeat with top sheet. Not really that big of a deal. Would a walk around be better? Sure. But willing to deal with it for the shorter, more compact floor plan.
  • It's impossible to make up a corner bed without A LOT of grief.
I tried it a couple of times...

then the wife struggled with it.
then we bought a new rig with a walk around bed.

    Good luck.
  • We have the corner bed and use our regular sheets. On the cut-off corner, the fitted sheet just gets tucked under the mattress. It's not been a problem. Making the bed is not as easy as a walk-around bed, but it is a price we are willing to pay to get the shorter MH. When the bed is made, it is not as pretty as a walk-around might be, but who cares.
  • We have a corner bed and would never attempt to make it up in a conventional manner. We us a Travasac; however, they seem to have gone out of business. Fortunately RV Superbag is now making a similar product
  • We have twin beds and three sides are against walls or closets. It is a real pain to use top sheets. I put the bottom sheet on at home before we leave and we use matching duvets instead of sheet and blanket. Coldest we've camped was 21 degrees the night the furnace motor froze. In Europe that is more common than a top sheet and blanket.

Never had a corner bed but my thoughts would be to not make it up :) Get a fitted sheet onto mattress and use some of those elastic straps with clips to hold it in place. Then, just use small covers as needed for warmth. In morning, fold/roll cover up like a sleeping bag and leave up at headboard with the pillows. If rig came with a bedspread, put it away until selling/trading.

We often do this with our walk-around bed because even the mattress against headboard closets is a pain.

I've read several posts from folks that like a Travasac but I've never tried one of those.
  • I had one camper with that type bed. Never again. It can be done, but I ain't gonna deal with it. Give me a "walk around" or I'll stay home.
