- Dutch_12078Explorer IIIBe aware that the DOT date code is only molded into one side of the tire for factory safety reasons. The other side will only have a partial code that does not include the date.

I use the age of the tire numbers when I go into to get new tires. I will only buy new tires that are only 6 months or less old. Some tire dealers have been know to try and convince you that a tire thats was mfg. i.e 1 1/2 to 2 yrs. ago is perfectly safe:( Do your own checking before you let them put on the tires. - BobGedExplorer

And on my Michelins that code is stamped on the inside of the tires. Front tires aren't too bad to get to as you can turn the steering wheel out. The rear tires are a bit more difficult. - RoyBExplorer IIGoogle image
