HWH Acting a bit funky

Went away this past weekend and had an issue with the HWH. When I went to turn it on the electronic ignition clicked and then I had a flame shoot out of the camper, much to the amazement of my children.

I should have checked for the spider webs or other blockage but I did not. The end was result was that I had to purchase a new thermal cutoff and a new spark set. After that it seemed to be working fine.

But....

1. It does not want to seem to light unless I open up the outside panel and blow into it. Then it goes fine. It will not ignite with the panel closed. Once it is going, I close the panel and no problem.
Until....

2. It will run for an extended period of time heating up the water, and when the water is at temperature it will shut off automatically. However, it will not seem to reignite when needed. I then have to go back outside, open the outside panel, blow into it and it will start up again.

Any suggestions?

  • It's a water heater. It heats water.

But to the Q at hand, I agree with the poster who said the igniter needs to be moved a bit. Check for blockages too. Bugs cause lots of troubles.

  • No wonder I couldn't figure out what you were talking about. When I see "HWH" I think of HWH Levelers, not Hot Water Heater.

  • Stubblejumper,

I will give that a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.
  • Sounds like your igniter is not quite right in the gas flow. When you blow on it that causes the gas to swirl and ignite. Place it in front of nozzle 1/4 to 1/2 inch out so gas passes over the spark.
