HWH jacks not leveling properly.

Hi all. My HWH jacks with automatic leveling has always worked perfectly until the rainstorm.
I drove about 50 miles in rain that was coming down so hard I could barely keep the windshield clear and there was probably an inch or two of standing water on the roadway the whole time.

Something must have gotten wet underneath because when I touch the auto level button, it now jacks the left side up way higher than the right.

My question: Are the sensors for the jacks underneath and susceptible to rain? How do I reset the sensors to level properly again?

Thanks in advance...Don

  • I have a Freightliner chassis and thought maybe this might have happened to someone else too.

I have no idea where my sensors are located, but apparently they are not in a location where water can get to them.

The motorhome has been parked for several days, so the connections should be dry. I will clean the connections and try the auto level tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.
  • My HWH jack sensor is the size of an upside down small saucer, about 4 inches in diameter, and located in my basement air conditioning bay. I understand HWH doesn't supply the sensor, but each manufacturer buys and installs whatever they want. My sensor has three screws on top that are adjusted to change the level settings. If the sensor is moved or bent by something (as happened to me), you'll have to reset the sensor to teach it what is level.

As DSDP Don suggested, it is probably a wet electrical connection and not the sensor.
  • "hotjag1".....not sure what chassis you have, but on my Freightliner, the leveling sensor is up high in my middle bay between the frame rails. It's about 6" long and 4" wide.

I don't think I would mess with the adjustment quite yet. It sounds like you suspect and you got wires wet. If you change the adjustment and then the wires dry out, you'll be out of whack again. I would look for connectors that were susceptible to water and clean them.
