I have some questions...you said you wanted to go west on I40, then why do you want to drive US84? Doesn't it hit I40 east of ABQ? I drive the roads from CO to NM monthly. If there isn't active snowing, these roads are fine. I see you are in CO. It snowed yesterday and is going to be 51 today. I would take my coach down 160 today...to 84....no issues. I am just wondering on your thinking. If you want a change, drive I25 to 160, then south to San Luis to Taos. Comes out in Santa Fe. Then you are I25 to I40. Wet mountains get a ton of snow as well as northern NM, but if is a day removed from snow, you will easily get through on dry roads. If you are in western CO, HWY 84 from Pagosa Springs to I25 is not too bad either, year round. Just watch the forecast.
In looking at your map, I see the route you want. When I25 turns west to SF, you want to jump on that stretch from south of Vegas to I40. That is a pretty good road and I would drive it. Cuts off a few miles, IMO.
