I think my Heart Interface Link 2000 quit...

Hi everyone,
My Heart Interface in my 1996 Monaco Executive quit charging the house batteries. I know it is a 130 amp charger. I checked the on/off switch and the breaker, no change. The green charge light comes on, but the voltage on the panel is low and keeps dropping. The only way to charge the house batteries is to start the engine. The inverter part of it works fine.

I'm guessing it is time to replace it. Is there a good modern direct replacement for the main box and display panel that can perhaps use the existing harness in my coach?

Thanks in advance.

  • Look at the Magnum 2800 series. They are a pure sine wave inverter. The control unit for the Magnums use the same four wire telephone cable used by the Xantrex converter you have. The connector needs to be modified as the wires terminate differently. I believe there is an adapter available that will change the connection so you don't need to cut the wires and re-attach the plug with the proper wire oreintation.

I have the Freedom 2500 and when it dies I'm going with the Magnum MS2812 and the their remote panel. Look at the iMarine web site for best prices.
  • Okay, I spoke with Xantrex. The latest and greatest is a Freedom SW 85-3012. Amazon price is $1489.98. The new LCD panel is part number 801-0921 and is on Amazon for $188.57. Here's the good news. They make an adapter so I can use my existing cable! Part number 808-9010 and is on Amazon for $21.07.

The other option is to repair it like Ivylog suggested. A local TV repair shop wants $50 to look at it and that goes towards the price of the repair.

Since your inverter portion works, you're fuse is good. The problem with a newer replacement will be the control cable... yours is a four line phone cable and newer use a Cat5 cable. Running a new cable or moving the control panel to a closer location may be possible.

I would think in SLC you could find a electronics repair facility that could repair the rectifier (three diodes) which is probably all that's wrong with the charge side.

*If you do not boondock (need 100+ amp recharge) then adding a 30 amp smart charger/converter ( $155) may be all you need to keep your batteries up. Newer is not necessarily better as many are now made in China.
  • Hubby is in the process of replacing our Heart Inverters with this: Tripp Lite APS2424

Our Heart Inverters were original equipment in the 1997 bus. If you're interested, send me a PM in about a week and I'll let you know the results of the installation.
  • I'll check for a fuse, but if I replace it if like the modern version of exactly what is in there.
  • My rig has a 300A Class T fuse between the Inverter and the House Battery. If that fuse blows, no charging passes to the battery.

Cost about $30 and much cheaper than a new inverter. Check your wiring schematics to see if you have something similar.
