- 2oldmanExplorer III wouldn't know if my bt needed cleaning! C rap goes in and c rap comes out. The consensus is ice doesn't work.
- rvtenExplorerSave your ice cubes for a nice comfort drink.
- gboppExplorerTry the GEO METHOD.
Don't waste your time with ice cubes. Use them for your drinks or cooling beer. - BillHoughtonExplorer III had to replace the dump valve on my black tank - started leaking.
Local RV place said to be sure to run fresh water through it after the contents drain; I turn on the pump and hold the flush valve down for a minute or so. Too early yet to see how effective this will be long term; but when I drained it after a trip a few days ago, it was the cleanest drain job I've done yet, with just a few drops from the drain pipe when I took the cover off. - Second_ChanceExplorer IIIce in the black tank: myth. Black tank rinse systems (such as our built-in one): useful. Periodic use of the "geo method": even more useful. The geo method (various definitions) often involves a cup of dishwashing liquid, a cup of borax crystals, and (optially) a cup of bleach. Drain the black tank, put these chemicals in and follow them with about 1/4 tank of fresh water just before pulling out for a road trip. This approach comes the closest we get to having all the tank sensors clean enough to work again, so we know it's doing some good on the inside of the tank.
Rob - PSWExplorerOur Phoenix Cruiser has the SaniCom system dump and built in washers, a new experience for me. It seems to work pretty well. I have always found that after dumping, a two thirds tank full of fresh water, a little Tide or equivalent and a hundred miles down the highway before final dumping is the easiest method for me.
I tried the ice a couple of times, using a full bag from the convenience store. Only thing I got was CC....aka Cool C***. - klutchdustExplorer IImade one of these to connect to my garden hose. With some dawn liquid and water it power washes the tank.
- 5thwheeleroldmaExplorerJust before a long trip I go to walmart and buy the smallest box of ridex, a gallon of vinegar. Split both between my three tanks; black, bathroom & kitchen. Leave in as long as possible, usually until I get to my final campground; then drain.
This cleans up the tanks pretty well, and my sensors all start working properly again. Course the sensors, especially the kitchen foul again pretty quickly.
The ridex is a no-brainer, but I think the vinegar really helps because most of our campgrounds seem to be in hard water country. The combo seems to eat away the crud pretty well. - BumpyroadExplorerThere are several issues wrong with the various videos on this. first is the use of smearing peanut butter on the sides of the tank. nothing is going to rinse/bump/etc. that off. often the ice cubes are dumped into a tank half full of water, all they do is bob along merrily in the tank. a minimal amount of water with ice cubes sliding back and forth has to knock off some debris however minimal that is. can't hurt, may help, why worry about it?
bumpy - tenbearExplorerI installed a Tornado tank cleaner and AFAIK, it does a good job of cleaning the tank.
