I'm a little confused

I think I might have stepped into something here, but I have to ask because it appears I don't really know what the difference between a class C and a class B motorhome.
I always thought a class C was a small to medium boxy shape MH built generally on a Ford or Chev chassis and sometimes has a cab-over and sometimes just a rounded front cap, and a class B was something smaller like a van or a van conversion maybe on a MB Sprinter chassis. My confusion stems from a question I asked in the class b-van conversion area of this site. I asked if anyone had any experience or knowledge of a Unity24MB van made by Leisure on a sprinter chassis and a response suggested I should be in the Class C area. I'm interested In the Unity because Triple E sent me a response today about a Regency24GTMB class C MH, I inquired about, saying they no longer produce that class C Regency...
Sorry to be so long winded here. Any response would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

X2, and then some. This thread is turning into a real dog's breakfast because Golden had to take his own cheap shot, when he almost surely has little knowledge of the decade-plus history of this issue on the B forum.

Since I'm the one that your referring to, why don't you read what I wrote in the Class B forum before you come down on me.
Here I will save you the trouble, "It's a Class C several owners over there. I will ask Admin to move your post to Class C."

I think it's members like you that make comments without any basis that is really hurting this forum.

You are kidding, right, Azkid? You chase this from B Forum to C, just to take a cheap shot at someone for asking a question and then you suggest that it's people like the OP that are causing issues within the ranks of users on this Forum? Dude..it's comments like yours that make people look elsewhere for their on-line experience and or get snappy. Leave the guy alone. It was just a question asked in a really nice way, too.

  • I wonder why someone would be so picky to insist that you ask a question about one RV in the "Correct Location"? Really we are trying to assist anyone who posts a question, why be so technical about what section it is posted in?

As stated above, class B would be the van conversions, while class C is any truck or van mounted motorhome with a factory installed box on the back. It can be any size cab, from a 40,000 GVWR Freightliner to a 6,000 pound GVWR Dodge cab and chassis from the 60's.

    Have fun camping!

  • Here is a link to RIVA's Consumer site. Just click on a picture of an RV and you will get the description for that type.
    Gene was right on.

Your description of the difference between a Class B and a Class C is fairly close. The physical size does not have that much to do with the Class designated by the RVIA. The Class B is a motorhome that is usually built within the original shell of the van as built by the chassis maker. It could be a Chevy, Ford, Sprinter, RAM, Nissan or other. The Class C is built on what they call a cut away chassis. That unit, when it left the factory, never had any body work behind the cab. That part was added by the motorhome converter. So...some of the Sprinters are Class B and some are Class C. The 2014 Unity is a Class C (notice the bulge behind the cab door) -
