To the OP. Propane has what the industry calls Heavy-End Contaminants that appear as a black residue that will clog a propane regulator to the point no gas will pass. I don't know your set up but if the furnace has a separate regulator this is a possibility. I've had this happen twice to me so I removed the regulator cleaned it with carburetor cleaner and blew it out with compressed air and that fixed the problem. But if the system has but one regulator and the stove is receiving gas then this would be a mute point. If the system functioned properly on the main tank then didn't on the portable tank I'd check the regulator on the portable tank as these are more susceptible to clogging than the onboard tank. Let us know what you find.
