Increasing towing capacity

Your chassis as delivered by Ford is full capable of towing 5K. But Fleetwood added really chincy frame extension and their welds leave a lot to be desired. Look underneath, it's scary. I have friends that have beefed up the frame extensions and added a 5K lb. receiver with no problems. Don't worry about your transmission. Your 98 coach could have a 97 E4OD transmission or a 99 4R100 transmission. Ford didn't build a 98 model year chassis. Both transmissions are tough. If you know of a really trustworthy weld shop go for it.
