Very normal procedure. It's not like a house where they bring in a carpet installer and cut around all of the walls. It also insulates the floors from the drivetrain in both heat and noise.
The good part, take a razor knife and cut it out along all the cabinets and you'll have an exact template.
Oh yeah.....wait until you see all of the staples they use. It will take you hours to pull them all.
