  • I now have the problem of one of the wipers hitting the center post. How do I adjust the stoke or position of this wiper?

    On wiper arms I give them 1/2 a grunt.....sorry I couldn't resist.

    Or whatever feels right.
    Big guy, 1/4 grunt.
    Little guy, full grunt.
I feel sorry for people that can't tighten a nut without a torque
    wrench.

I found out the hard and EXPENSIVE way that torque values are established for a reason. I wasn't even to the "umph" stage, much less to the "grunt" stage on a specialty bolt on my Harley...and all of a sudden...SNAP.... needless to say, after $200 and two weeks later to get the ordered part delivered.....I now use a torque wrench on just about EVERY bolt that even halfway looks critical.
  • I just installed new wiper arm assemblies on my 2001 Allegro Bus. Both of mine cracked around the flange on a return trip from Branson,Mo. Was not aware that you had to torque these nuts but after I installed my new ones I used a 7-8" ratchet with socket and snug it up lightly. The wiper assembly fits on a spline in which you need to make sure your wipers are in the right position before installing nut to tighten. Most very simple to do...I also noticed that my wiper motor had loosen from its bracket causing my wiper to move more that it should have letting my wipers go to far over to the side of the windshield which no doubt cause the wiper flange to crack. This flange is very thin and made of maybe cast aluminum and may crack with excessive force so use a short wrench and locking nuts.
  • I use nylock nuts, then it doesn't matter. Leave em flopping, they still won't come loose!
  • I have gotten good info, specs, parts, etc. from Rome truck parts in Georgia they seem to be experts related to wipers. Google them.

Just manually tighten them. Too tight and you'll never get them off again.
  • I had a problem with my wiper arms breaking about three inches from the base. I read that if I replace the blades to 28 inch instead of the 32 that it came with should take care of the problem. I also read they should be properly torque because to tight could cause cracking and to loose could also develop that same problem. I know the people on this form give good advice
  • "peterman1".....it's not that critical unless you're the type that snaps bolts off. If you are, use a 1/4" socket set and snug the bolt down. This will make it tight without overdoing it.
