You have to go digging in the AMBest ratings. They break it down by region of the country, and even have ratings for claims and customer service.

I got a recommendition for a insurance agent many years ago and went with him. He is a captive agent for a particular company. My son recommended him. I had a problem where they dropped my glass coverage without my knowledge, and I had a glass claim. They turned me down on the claim. I went to the agent to find out what happened to my glass coverage. He admitted someone made a mistake and reinstated the coverage. He also covered the claim out of his pocket. Have been with him for years now. Am not on a insurance roller coaster ride like many I read about on this forum. My rates are not jumping all the time. My agent know we when I walk in the door and is right there to take care of me. Am treated by his employees as someone who matters to them. Find yourself a good local insurance agency who handles a highly rated, respectable, insurance company. A agency that is big enough that they are known and small enough to care about you!
