Is 300HP Enough

We are thinking of switching to a Class A or a Super C to use for towing our race trailer which weighs 7-8K when loaded. We like the Fleetwood Excursion which sits on a Freightliner chassis with 300HP but everyone is telling that I won't be happy with that HP and should get more. Anyone have a similar setup?

check the tow cap on that unit, I think it's 5,000

    It's 10K
  • The horsepower isn't the issue. I don't know what the light weight of the Excursion is, but the GVWR is 26,000 lbs and the GCWR is 30,000 lbs. It may have a 10,000 lb hitch rating, but that does not mean that you can haul a 10,000 lb vehicle behind you! The only way I know to correctly answer this question is to find someone with a Excursion and have it weighted, ready to run, and see what that weight comes up at. If it is 24,000 lbs, and the GCWR is 30,000 lbs, you can only pull a 6000 lb trailer.
