Interesting: Wife and I also did a cost compairison..
First: Estimated value of house we had = Sticker price on motor home I'm sitting in now.. So that's a wash
Taxes on the house (City of Detroit) Were over 3,000 a year
Taxes on the motor home less than 400 a year.
Water, Gas (natural) Electric and sewer 250-300/month More if its a bad month
Phone... We dumped the wire line and went all cell so that is a wash.
Parking: Well with my blown engine Im paying about 475/month this includes Water, Sewer and electric, I use very very little propane (Figure 200/year or less, I'm hoping to hold it to less than 50 bucks here in the next year)
Of that 475 375 is for the site Im on and the remaining hundred is for dues at two campgrounds I belong to.. Normally in the summer that's all I'd pay (100) and in the winter Id pay only 120 a month more for my "Week out".
Fuel for the motor home is costly but .. Well, till I can save up a few thousand I'm not buying any of that.
Ability to move when the neighborhood is no longer to my liking.. Priceless.
(Just before we moved from house to motor home the house next door got ventelated, several small round holes punched in it, thankfully nobody was home at the time (Drive by shooting) and thankfully they had good aim.
Shortly after we left it got firebombed.
I was very very very glad that the motor home was.. Well, a motor home and had moved off site.
