If the site was blacktop we used pads as a consideration to the park - didn't leave indents.
On gravel sites we used them because one time it rained for days and even though the site looked hard-packed, the jacks sunk down and were a bear to raise.
It doesn't take much effort to slip pads underneath. We found some black cutting boards and they lasted for years and took up very little space.
