Jack
My apologies if there's an FAQ on this I didn't find. Redirect me if appropriate. I haven't been carrying a jack and tools to change a tire if necessary; in general, I have road service for that. ...

I'm revisiting a thread I started a while back. I'm putting together a kit which I hope never to use, of course ... my question at the moment has to do with the size rating for the bottle jack which is at the heart of this kit. One opinion here is to use something like a 12-ton jack because it's faster that the smaller jacks. My rig is relatively small: here's the door-post weight ratings:
Front GAWR 4600
Rear GAWR 9450
GVWR 14050
In the worst case, I'd be jacking up one corner of the rear, which means that if the rig were fully loaded, the weight would be about 2 1/2 tons. Conclusion: a smaller bottle jack, like the common 6-ton variety, will more than handle the load.
Am I thinking clearly here? I might still get the 12-ton variety for the speed advantage, but I want to be clear that I'd be doing this for convenience rather than safety or functionality.
Thanks!
