  • Any Caterpillar dealer can reprogram it in 15 minutes (assuming your diagnostic plug is accessible).

And, is your exhaust brake a Jacobs Corp brake? PacBrake? other. If PacBrake, they need to be lubed. Don't know about Jacobs brake. If you have a PacBrake and need lube instructions, let us know. An exhaust brake flap hung partially closed from lack of lube will also cause your symptoms.
  • Thank Guy's for the response. Its a 06 fleetwood with a c7 cat. Yea wolfe10 that is what I would like to have the Jake brake work like.
  • What engine??? I know Caterpillar offers reprogram of the ECM to "Latch Mode":

Latch Mode – allows use of exhaust brake when you need it and COASTING when you don’t.

When throttle is closed – Coast

When throttle is closed and service brake applied, the exhaust brake comes on. It stays on whether you continue to use service brake or release service brake.
As soon as you apply any throttle, the exhaust brake turns off.

Note: This does require that the chassis maker did supply the engine ECM with "brake applied" signal.
  • I believe you're thinking of the Brake Switch. However I don't think it's available any longer as it's not needed. Both Cat and Cummins can make a program change to accomplish the same thing.

Wish I had known prior to installing my Brake Switch. :S
