If you "need" something that can go where you shouldn't, then it's great. You said short (2 door?), so if you are carrying more than 2 people, you may not like it. Getting in and out of the rear seat is tedious, unless you're putting kids back there.
I've had two Wranglers, and towed them everywhere. Never had any sort of problem, and sometimes I go where I shouldn't.
It's my only car now. Would I get it if not for it's off road capabilities? Probably, because it's cool looking, especially to little boys, whose mouths drop open and fingers point when they see it. I guess it looks like an oversized toy to them. ha.
