I wouldn't worry about new unless its going to be your daily driver as well. I got a whale of a deal on a 2004 Wrangler 2 door with a 4 speed stick shift and a 4 cyl. engine in 2004. The original owner bought it for his daily driver, but he got tired of having to downshift all the time going up slight grades. I wouldn't want it as a daily driver either, but I only use it as a toad so it still has very low miles. I had my RV dealer add connections for lights and a braking system. Now its just transfer case in neutral and away I go.
