I've asked the same question on another forum, thought I'd see what the opinions are here.(Apologies to members of the other site who have replied).I currently have 2003 DSDP with 30K miles and it is in great shape. When I bought it just over a year ago the idea was that I would soon be retiring and we would become snowbirds in the MH. That's why I upgraded from previous MHs to a 40 footer.Well plans change and it seems I might be working for another 4 years and only be able to use the MH occasionally for a couple of weeks per year.So here's the question -Should I keep the MH (its paid for) and when I retire I have a 16/17 year old MH which would have sat most of the time (and would continue to depreciate probably another $20-25K). I'm also worried that it would require more maintenance due to its age when I am ready to retire. or -Sell it now and put the money aside so I can purchase a newer MH in 4 years?DW thinks I'm crazy to even be thinking this and believes it's a plot so I can by a SuperC Dynamax down the road:BThanks for any ideas.Chris

cut your losses and sell it. Nothing is harder on a MH than sitting and doing nothing. So unless you can take it out monthly, stay on top of all maintenance, and are willing to pay for insurance, taxes, and licensing for all that time you are better off to sell it and buy again later.

Having the coach will prompt you to take that weekend get away that you might not do if you sell it. It'll be there when you need it. Cost for insurance, storage and licensing is just a drop in the bucket. You know where the coach has been too. In three years, do some upgrading..maybe take a year to plan and do that. When you're done, you'll have an excellent coach to begin the next life phase....Dennis

What is your financial position? If you can easily afford it why get rid of a good quality coach in good operating condition. Other than full timers these are expensive toys, not investments or true assets. I only use my coach a few weeks or months per year. I could stay in very expensive hotels and fly to destinations for a lot less money. If it pleases you, then keep it. I have a Trawler that's bigger than my MH. If I worried about the money it would keep me awake at night. Okay, I admit that sometimes both of them do a little, haha. But I have a neighbor who is loaded and will die with every penny still in the bank. He never goes anywhere, wears old clothes, and pinches every penny. He will die not ever knowing what he missed. You get one ride on this merry go round. Do what you enjoy and can afford!

I'd keep the coach. Heading out on an adventure in a coach you know, fits your intended life style and paid for is the best way to make memories. Four years may seem like a long time but if you can camp a few nights from time to time even as little as a weekend a month the coach will do just fine waiting for the day you head south.

I'm reminded of one of the better sales pitch's for buying a timeshare, it will force you to take a vacation... keeping it will be much the same and NO I do not own any Tshares.
It sounds like someone does not want you to retire so in order to stay on I'd require longer times off. Easy for me to say. Can what you do be done by computer from where ever? Is another four years of income that important?
One of the life changing events in my life was when my father suddenly died at age 61. After many years of 24/7 as a farmer he had finally gotten to a point where he could take time off. I do thank the family farmers for all the hours they put in BUT I did not follow that path. We made traveling a priority and have been in all of North America and 70 other countries... so far.
OP, what's most important to you and your wife? Only you'll can decide but I'd keep it and use it.

I would keep it, if you enjoy using it when you have time. Having it set up and ready to go is a big plus. We so often plan everything in the future and don't seize the moments that aren't so planned out. It would be neat to just take off for a weekend, as somebody above suggested. Since you know it inside out, it's easy to get use out of it now, too, for short trips.
