keeping passengers in back of class A cool

I own a 28 foot 2011 Allegro Breeze. When I am traveling in the heat of the summer, the passengers in the back seats of the motor home get hot. Dash air does not cool much beyond front compartment.
Do any of you turn on the generator and run the house air conditioner? I realize that will drink up a lot fuel.
I have bought a 12 volt fan and put it in the back but it still fails the job. I also pull down the sunshade to cover about a half of the huge front windshield.
Thanks for your advise.
  • Run the Generator - its what its there for !
We run it a lot going down the road (back and forth from texas to virginia)
  • Yes, we run the genny while driving in hot weather in order to run the overhead AC.
  • Yes, turn on the Genny and run the A/C. Depending upon your current MPG, it will only be reduced 1-2 MPG during that period. At 1/2 gallon per hour your actual cost is less than $2/hour.
  • yes, we run the genny and the a/c frequently, even if it's just us in front.
  • Try it one time and you will find it doesn't drink up a lot of fuel.
  • Considering that the coach is probably burning 8 or more gallons per hour, why are you concerned about 1/2 gallon more for the generator?

It's not the generator that's drinking all the fuel...
  • If its hot the generator is on and the heat pump is running----and everyone is cool.
  • We run the generator when we travel. I want the folks in back to feel like we never left. Our generator doesn't burn that much diesel.
  • Hi,

I've had good success running the fan only setting on the roof air. That can be run be a pure sine wave inverter. The demand on the electrical system is about 20 amps DC, so the alternator can easily keep up with the load.

If that fails, then run the genny and pay the price.
