Key West suggestions

We are wanting to plan for a week stay in the Key West area for next year. We would like a nice place with full hookups including sewer and 50 amp, waterfront site. I've checked out Bluewater Key on the web and it looks nice. Any other suggestions?

  • We stayed at Boyd's, and I agree, they pack you in. At that time we had a TT with a bedroom slide off the back. We were literally hanging over the water, which was pretty cool. They're also pricey - $120.00 night, which is probably the norm for March in the Keys. We were able to get a reservation in Feb. for March. Maybe they had had a cancellation. This was in 2012.
  • I suggest you do NOT stay at Fiesta Key. It was good as a KOA when we spent three weeks there. Then it was supposed to be developed into condos. That deal fell through a few years back. Morgan has it now and the reviews say it has become a dump.

My guess is that somewhere, way out there on the back burner, there are still plans to develop condos. Until then, Morgan is not going to spend a dime on this place, and it shows.

My kids used to tent camp at the KOA in Sugarloaf. They liked the campground in general because of the facilities, plus the fact that they could get breakfast right there in the park (I assume that is still the case). I checked more current reviews. The sites are still a little small (no surprise there). And some people complained of the music noise. I guess it depends on when, and how long you intend to stay there. Three days during the week could be peaceful. A full week could be entertaining on the weekend, but maybe not so peaceful.

Anyone having any luck with reservations? I haven't checked many, but what I have checked in the keys there are no openings til after May of next year. Keys books up way in advance.
  • I have stayed at Boyd's twice good CG but the sites are a little small, close to Key West.I will tell you one place I won't stay if they are still in business, Leo's. Unbelievably rules and charges.
  • We stayed at Sugarloaf key with Mom's Alegro gasser a few years back, 50Amp service, etc., and while we weren't in the RV this time, stopped by last week while we were in the Keys to visit the 6-toed cats, oysters and conch, etc. Sugarloaf Key KOA looked busy and tidy as always.
  • We have stayed at Blue Water RV Park for years. It is wonderful. It is not that much more than Boyd's and the difference is huge. Boyd's has them stacked like Sardine's. Blue Water is wide open spacious, each lot has it's own tiki hut. The one we stay at has a dining table for at least 8. Padded lounge chairs and a wide screen TV. Very well kept. Quiet.
  • We stayed at Bluewater and it was very nice. Hosts were very helpful as well. I didn't see any decent parks right in Key West.
