Keyless Entry

After reading this thread, I contacted Winnebago because the entry door has never (6 years) worked with the electric locks. Winnebago verified that the door SHOULD work with the electric locks. They said all Winnebagos/Itascas have that installed.

I took an analog multimeter outside and put the probes on the contacts on the door frame and had DW alternately lock and unlock the electric locks. The needle didn't move.

I took the two screws out that held the contacts on the door frame and pulled it off. The contacts were NOT PLUGGED INTO THE MH WIRING! I used a flashlight to look into the hole and saw the two wires that SHOULD have been on the contact plate. I used some needle nose pliers to pull the connectors out and plugged them onto the back of the contacts, and screwed it back in place.

VOILA! THE ENTRY DOOR NOW WORKS WITH THE ELECTRIC LOCKS! If I had known it was that easy to fix, I would have fixed it 6 years ago!

Push button on key once and driver door unlocks, twice and remaining doors unlock. My RV came with power door lock on coach. It uses brass spring loaded contacts in the door jam to pass electricity/signals to the door. Winnebago taps into the passenger side door wiring to do it. Obviously you need a door with a PDL solenoid.

Mine has a status light on the dash near the passenger door. Does anyone else have this small flashing red light?

Nice idea. Our propane fill is right by the door which off course has no locking cams on it.

I should do that. I put the ignition/cab door key so I could move MH when cutting grass, etc so I just go through cab into RV house. I really need to reorginize what keys I carry.

Another low-tech solution - for the entry door. If you have storage hatches (and not the basement style hatches) you can replace the keyed cam locks with combi-cam locks and stash a key in a hatch. If you have a hatch close to the door you can even mount one of those retractable janitor-style keyrings on the door of the hatch and not even worry about dropping the entry key. We did that on our TT, worked great!

Yep, but I can still wish :)

actually you can wire a magnetic switch to the coach door and tie it into a alarm system... I had a viper alarm installed last week and the tech said no problem, he tested the magnetic switch on the entry step but said it was a 5 volt switch....anyway, viper carries a switch for around $15....
