Kwikee step control

Will a #909510000 step control replace a #909506000 control?I know they look different but mounting is not an issue.

  • If you will go to the following link, you wil get the correct answers to your questions.

Chris Bryant from Florida is an RV tech and really knows about Kwikee steps and agrees with me. The controllers are basically the same and interchangeable.

    Hope this helps.

On my 1996 unit the controller had a gasket with 6 screws holding it together. You can't see the screws until you remove the controller because they are on the top. There is a test on the Kwickee web site that show you how to test the controller, door switch and motor.
  • Motorhome is a 1993 Flair.Step always will go out but sometimes i have work with it to get to retract.I hooked a test light to the wire that becomes hot when it retracts. You can hear the contacts working in the control even if the wire doesn't become hot to retract the steps.I use a magnet off an old speaker to operate the door switch. This allows me to lie under the coach and operate the steps to see exactly what is happening. The steps are 26 series single step.Amazon has the 909510000 control for $85.67 and free shipping.I can get a complete conversion for around $225 but everything else is working fine and who knows how long it will last.To me it's wasting money to replace parts that are working. One post said you can replace contacts in control. This is a sealed unit but please tell me more.If I can open it and replace parts inside I will certainly do so.Thanks for input from everyone.Curley
  • My old controller was potted no way to get into it. At least no way I could figure out

What year is your MH? How did you determine that the controller is bad? Mine was a 1996 and I could not get a replacement. If it is the controller there are 2 relays inside that can be replaced to get the controller working again.
  • I am pretty sure they are not interchangeable. I have a 1999 american eagle the power step control went out on it. I tried to find a replacement for it with no luck. Kwikee made changes to the unit sometime after 99. I found that the motor on my step was still good so I hardwired the motor to a manual switch and it works fine. I just have to remember to bring in the step before traveling. I will use this switch until the motor goes bad then replace the whole thing
  • Not sure but here's my recollection. Sometime in 99 Kwikee changed how there controllers worked - the old ones operated with a magnetic door switch that was "normally closed" and the new ones operated with a door switch that was " normally open". The post 99 controllers often came with the revised door switch but not always - no big deal as the new door switch was readily available from any parts house and not very expensive. If all that's correct then chances are controller may work but you might have to buy switch.

You should contact the new owners of Kwikee - PowerGear - probably have to write as I have read that they never answer phone.
  • I would call the factory to be sure,
I bought new steps from Dell city when I damaged mine. They were the cheapest I could find and I was very satisfied with them.
