The Kwikee steps on my coach will not extend. A couple days ago they were slow to extend, worked okay and quit again. Yesterday they would not extend, I moved coach and went back later and they worked fine. They would not extend this morning. Moved the coach in the afternoon, but the steps still don't extend. I wiggled the wires at the sensor at the door, but nothing. That is the only thing I know how to check. Can anyone give me any ideas?

There is two ground wires under the step that causes problems due to corrosion.

Your description sounds like a loose connection somewhere. Possibly a loose ground, or the wires from the door magnets. Check the grounds first as a faulty ground can cause all sorts of problems.

When I had this problem I found a wire that had come undone at a splice. I followed the wires to where they were taped with electrical tape. Took the tape off and there was a red wire that had come out of the splice. After redoing the wire everything has worked fine since.

Steps need to be lubed at pivot points to function properly.

Took the coach back to the repair facility. They were able to communicate with Power Gear and got the steps working. The problem involved a ground wire and, possibly, one of the prongs on a plug going into the motor. I hope this solves the problem making this my last post on this subject.

I had this same problem. It was intermittent at first but then they stopped working entirely. I went through all the checks others have suggested with no improvement. Eventually I replaced the motor and they've been working great ever since.

The steps are connected to the chassis system. When engine is running the steps will retract or not extend. This is a safety item.
On my rig, when the igintion switch is moved to on, the steps retract.

I had to move the coach this morning. The steps did not extend when I opened the door. I moved the coach and when I opened the door the steps worked properly. This is frustrating.

The shop replaced the control module and the steps seem to be working fine.

Suspect it is a bad motor armature or worn brushes. A sharp rap on the motor with a hammer got mine running temporarily. Motor was the same as a Taurus L/H window motor.

The steps quit again this morning so I have the coach at a repair facility. When I arrived they were working again. I hope they can find the problem.

I can give a tip if you need a new motor. My 3 step model took the LF power window motor from a '79 Lincoln town car. The 2 step ones take from a Taurus, or some other Ford product. They are a lot cheaper at NAPA than from Kwikee. The steps do have the power to remove fingers and such if caught in the step while moving. Counting fingers before and after should be sufficient.
