kwikee steps

My 1997 thor infinity ford chassis steps would stick and release when I tapped the motor. I had read motors were sealed and could not be repaired. WRONG motor comes apart readily permitting cleaning lubricating and reinstalling. always check out for yourself before assuming something you read is gospel.PS motor working fine.

Did you get into the motor itself, or did you just get into the gear box and clean and lube it?
  • I bought a Kwikee motor/gearbox brand new on Amazon for around $60. There are several different ones but you can look at Amazon and figure out which one matches yours.
  • Glad to here you are back on the road again.

Motor fron Kwikee..... Very very expensive

IDENTICAL MOTOR from Ford or Chevy (Depending on the model of steps) MUCH CHEAPER.. Even cheaper from Auto Zone/Discount auto ET-Al

Might even find one at All Electronics or some other surplus place

It is a window riser motor.. Different model steps.. Different windows.

My project last campsite was replacing the steps themselves, old ones bent and jaming, (motor worked fine) got that done, worked fine till I stopped for water at Pilot on the way here where I am now... NO operation

Initial indication is no power to unit but Will actually TEST later today..(Light did not come on with door open)

Oh the joy.. Thi8s is a repair year for the RV
    New (Used) engine
    New tires
    New steps
    New mirror glass
    Re-caulk roof
    Re-do half bath
Fix slide out ( Current major issue)
Fix Dash air (Also current major issue)

Some I do, Some I hire depends on my level of knowledge High) Need for "Flexibility" (Joints in body, mine is low) and Tool Box.

THe steps I did Hardest part was holding the steps up against the bottomn of the RV while I put nuts on the bolts.. I had my friend Jack to that for me. He don'e mind that kind of work.. (His full name is Harbor Freight 12 ton Air/Hydraulic Bottle Jack.. He lifts and holds real good).

Lots of things can be taken apart and fixed. Kwikee step motors can be rebuilt, but IF the motor windings/brushes are BAD, then replace is the best option. You have a 20 year old RV, but the problems that Kwikee motors had until about 5 years ago are gone. Usually Kwikee motors have a bad Armature/brushes. While that can be rebuilt it is not cost effective to do so. Doug
