I've used a dozen different greases, oils, sprays, WD-40, Spray white Grease and, even regular old 30W engine oil. It all works. Of course it's going to attract grime/dirt/dust and more. They're riding about 8" off the road, you can expect them to get GRIMY. No biggie. Every once in a while, you spray all the pivot points with some $2.00 carb cleaner spray and, all the "grime" washes out and, you're ready for more of whatever you choose.
It seems people get worried about what to use on simple step pivots. We're not talking Space Shuttle here, just some step pivots. Pivots that, no matter what you use on them, will STILL GET DIRTY AND GRIMY!
So, use what you choose, and just don't go too far in between lubes. And they'll be just fine.
