Lazy Daze towing

I'm looking at a 27' Lazy Daze, but am dismayed at the 4000 pound rated hitch. The GCWR allows for considerably more room, even with the coach at full GVWR.

I emailed the company, and they replied that customers that want increased towing ability need an after market hitch. I'm fine with that, but I can't seem to discover if that voids any warranties.

Anyone out there have an answer?

Thanks!
  • This and related topics have been discussed many times in the past on the Lazy Daze Owners' message board; join, do a search of the current forum, and also of the archives which were migrated to the new site when we dumped Yahoo.

This is a corollary site that also contains a great deal of information on Lazy Daze motorhomes:

There is also a Yahoo"LD tech" forum called "Techsnoz"; it's still viable, but the site owner hasn't kept it up for a while. It's still worth a check because it has a LOT of very valuable information.
  • It would not void a warranty per federal law. You can legally only be denied coverage based on an aftermarket part or addition if the failure was caused by the aftermarket part. Since the chassis is designed to be able to tow more than the current hitch allows, there's pretty much nothing that a properly installed, higher-rated hitch would do that falls into that category.

Do note the "properly installed" bit, which might not be perfectly straightforward on a motorhome with the typical frame extensions.

This is exactly correct. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits voiding a warranty because of aftermarket equipment if that equipment had no effect on the failed part. An obvious example, a higher rated hitch installed would not void the warranty on the RV refrigerator but could void a warranty on the frame rails to which the hitch is affixed.
