leaky windshield

Have a 2002 Itasca Sunrise 32V, drove home from Bellingham, WA yesterday through quite a storm on I-5 south. Lots of wind and rain, noted a small amount of drips on the inside of the passenger windshield. Driver side had no problems (although the drivers side windshield was replaced this summer after a large rock chip). The Sunrise has the black strips along the top, sides and middle of the windshields. Have not noticed a leak before. Any suggestions?
  • I have an Itasca 36RD, had the metal frame cleaned primed and painted, and had both windshields replaced. That was 3 years ago. NOW, The drivers side started with a small leak down the inside of the windshield.
    I removed the rubber trim on the out side of the windshield. Along the top of the windshield, between it and the frame is a small space. I purchased a tube of 3M weatherstrip adhesive. I applied it in the space along the entire length of the windshield, quite liberally. It is thin enough, it flowed into the ares that was leaking and also coated the frame. 12,000 miles and no more leaks

  • If it is the windshield it is a known issue with Winnebago coaches.
    The windshield is bonded to a steel frame. The rubber around the windshield is primarily cosmetic but should keep water away from the frame to some degree.

    If water gets to the metal frame it can rust and push the windshield out enough to cause leaks and/or crack the windshield.

    My passenger side cracked and the driver side leaked and cracked. I had both replaced at the factory (about three years apart)and asked them to clean and rustproof the frame. My insurance covered it although I had to pay a deductible.

    Last summer the drivers side had to be replaced again due to a rock causing a crack. The tech said the frame looked good now - no rust.
  • Make sure the leak is actually from the windshield before tearing anything apart. Front clearance light leaks are not uncommon, and easily mistaken for a windshield leak.
  • I thought I had a windshield leak last year. After further investigation I found that a couple (one was barely leaking) of the clearance lights up front were leaking and the water was finding it's way down the windshield after dripping into the cabinets above the windshield. Just a thought... before you condemn the windshield, have someone spray the front of the MH with a hose and verify the source of the leak.

  • Had same problem from factory. Had to reset window as sealant was thin or missing in one area along side of windshield.
  • Several years ago the windshields on our 96 Southwind were leaking and pulling out of the frames.

    I had both windshields reset, they used the original rubber gaskets and sufficient sealant.

    The shop that did the work said, not enough sealant was used when the windshields were installed at the factory.

    No leaks or windshield pop out since they were reset.

    Probably when you had the drivers side repaired, they sealed it properly.

    Maybe you should consider having the passenger windshield reset?

    You could try caulking it but, to me, that's not a good option.
    However, it is cheaper.
