generally the awning motor is only powered when extending or retracting (at least it was on mine).
I mounted the LED strip (16.5 feet) on the coach wall under the awning & ran the wiring down the arm.
I used the same hole that the factory used to run the power the wall to the awning.
Once inside the coach i was able to use 12vdc or 120vac power.

here's a couple pictures from a recent camping trip (no flash) - i have a separate small set of (red) led's under the coach to illuminate or back light the steps. the step lights are not multi color & are on a separate switch.
