There are several "fico" scores based on who is scoring . Yes the "normal"..original one the 3 credit scoring companies use is 850 max but there are several specialty scores including several of my credit card companies that use the 900 max version.
Almost all or many of the credit card companies today will let you see your score on your accounts page .Be sure to look at "what" score it is and the range as everybody calls theirs the Fico score. The only score that matters is the one the lender your shopping uses. Even your insurance company uses a "score"
Hard truth is if you don't borrow money you are a unknown to a lender. Why all of the sudden do you want money? is their point of view. You haven't demonstrated you can pay back.. Just that you do not borrow. With a 800 score on anybody's chart I do not see you as a non borrower. If you don't borrow or use credit cards your score drops. It shouldn't be in the 800's
If your just looking for a short term 7 year loan or less a CU might be a good choice. If for some reason you are looking at a longer term like 12 or 15 years and/or 200 300 grand? then most CU's I have dealt with aren't interested. Essex or one of the Ones you see in the rv Mags Might be a good starting point for such a high dollar or long term.
This is one of the few advantages buying from a dealer offers! They can get you financed. Yes they may or may not make a couple bucks on the loan for bringing it to the bank but if its lower than you can get on your own (know in advance) who cares.
