Lesson learned
The city water fill on my Class C failed. The factory replacement was $60, kind of a gasp-inducing price. I did some local checking around. The big place that bills itself as an RV parts house was very little help. I found a decent fill at my hardware store (check valve, hose connection, all in one), but it was female threaded rather than male as on the original. That's OK, a good brass close coupling would fit, and would accept the little plastic compression fitting for the connection to the tank. But it was going to be about an inch longer, which would mean making a plastic shim to fill the space.
Then, on impulse, I stopped in to the RV repair place to which we've taken it once before (and will be again, next month, the earliest they could fit us in). Yep; almost a bolt-in replacement (I had to drill new holes in the sheet metal through which it passes, to accept the flange on the end), half the price for a better product.
Now I know where to look locally. I'm going to suggest to them, when I take it in, that they consider getting themselves to show up on Google as a parts source, too.
