My malfunction turned out to be the dash momentary rocker switch, itself and replaced it with a momentary button, I had on hand. At time, I found out, that the circuit had a time delay on drop out for connecting the batteries together, so with one push and release of the button, the batteries stay paralleled for about 15 - 30 secs.
