I mounted mine to the siding just under the gutter rail. When the awning is retracted there is an inch or so between the awning roll and the siding, so the lights are still somewhat useable. I cleaned the siding with alcohol before mounting using the self adhesive light strips and they have stayed put. But a seam in the gutter rail has leaked a small amount of water across the supposedly waterproof strips, and I have had to replace the lights yearly because they corrode. Last year I placed a small piece of eternabond at the seam, and to each end of the light strip. So far, so good with this one.
