Lights on Toad

My 2016 Focus is being equipped to be towed and I would appreciate a little info from the forum. We're using Blue OX baseplate and bars and Invisibrake breaking. The vehicle owners manual requires the negative lead of the battery to be disconnected before towing. The shop equipping the vehicle is running a special line to operate the toad brake lights but has said nothing about the tail lights when the motorcoach lights are on. It seems to me the toad tail lights should be on when the motorcoach lights are. Is this the normal hookup? Thanks again in advance you've been a big help to this newbie.
  • The installer in most likely installing a 12 volt supply to your toad as the Invisibrake requires power to operate.
The lights will be fed off the MH lights.

You are correct. The toad lights should be on. Check with the installer, maybe you misunderstood what they are doing? If not, tell them you want the toad tail lights connected with the coach lights.
  • Yes, a normal toad hookup pretty much mirrors the coach lights. It's not uncommon for toads with separate turn and brake lights to use only the brake lights for both functions, but that's about the only "non-standard" functionality sometimes involved. I wired our toad so all of the rear lights are fully functional, including the high center brake light and separate turn signals
  • I agree with K Charles. As long as your toad is wired such that the RV lights, brake lights and turn signal lights work at the rear of the toad when you use them in the RV, you should be fine. Blue Ox sells the wiring kits.
