Have mulled full timing for a number months, after looking at a upcoming knee replacement I would like to know how some of the readers deal with the class A steps.

  • My concern is not so much the knee because we are still in our home. I am courious how someone with a permanent disability would deal with it.
I'm sure a DP will be a lot closer the the ground than the A.
  • We've both had knee replacements -- and shoulder -- while we were full-timing. Steps shouldn't be any problem for you even when you come back from surgery. They'll have you walking hours after surgery and will give you some in-hospital physical therapy. Just mention that you'll have some steps and they'll work with you right away.

The important part is to put all your effort in doing the physical therapy for six weeks or for ever how long. That's the only way you'll improve greatly. It will hurt for two weeks but do it. After that you'll see a very big improvement. Don't be afraid to bend the knee. It won't break. While you're still in surgery the doc will twist and bend that new knee every which way to make sure it works as it should. Don't worry...you won't feel it. :)

You'll be so much better and pain-free than you are now. We're even playing pickleball daily and running around the court. Best of luck to you!
  • Should be no different than using stairs anywhere else. After the surgery, you will go through physical therapy and you'll have to learn how to walk all over again. You'll recover quickly, but they'll have you walking up and down steps. In a short while, you'll be ready for the Boston Marathon.

Don't sweat the steps. You'll do fine!

If you are having only 1 knee replaced, it's the "other" knee that will be screaming ... "NO! NO! NO!"... :B
  • I just worked a five day trade show with a 70 year old that has had both knees replaced. Given how he was able to run circles around me with my god given knees, I would say he runs up and down the stairs of a class A!
